0xC004F074 shows Windows is looking for a KMS (enterprise volume activation) server and cannot reach one. On a home computer this usually means the machine is accidentally on the KMS client channel: it was installed from a volume image, or a pirated KMS tool ran in the past. The fix is entering your genuine key with slmgr.

Step-by-step fix

  1. Open an elevated command prompt and run "slmgr /dlv"; if the "Channel" line says VOLUME_KMSCLIENT, the machine is a KMS client.
  2. Enter your genuine key: "slmgr /ipk YOURKEY" — this switches the channel to Retail/OEM/MAK.
  3. Trigger online activation with "slmgr /ato".
  4. If a KMS tool was ever used, clean its leftovers (including suspicious Task Scheduler entries) and run a full antivirus scan.
  5. On a company computer, contact your IT department — KMS reachability is a network configuration matter.
