If you have hardware too old to run a current Windows edition, or you depend on specialised software — a production-line controller, an old POS system, a lab instrument driver — that only supports Windows 7, this category is built for exactly that case. Typical situations where Windows 7 is the right call

The requests we see most often involve CNC and production-line control software, older inventory or accounting systems, lab-instrument drivers, and certain POS terminals — vendors for this kind of equipment frequently never released Windows 10 or 11 drivers at all. If the machine has to stay connected to the internet at all, we'd also recommend adding a current antivirus licence as an extra layer of protection — it matters more than usual on an edition whose official support window has already closed. For a business that needs to rebuild that exact environment after a format, a genuine Windows 7 Pro licence is a far safer and more maintainable path than an unlicensed or pirated copy.

Before starting, download and save the vendor's Windows 7 drivers for your network card and any peripherals (printers, POS hardware) to a USB drive, back up your important files separately, and note down the activation details for any specialised software you rely on. Doing this upfront saves a lot of time getting the machine fully operational again after the install.

Support has ended — does the licence still work?

Yes. The end of Microsoft's support doesn't invalidate the licence — the key you buy activates your system for life. What's changed is that no new security patches are released, so we'd recommend keeping a Windows 7 machine off the open internet where possible, or isolated on a local network.
