What Is a MAK (Multiple Activation Key)?
A MAK is a key type Microsoft produces for organisations in its volume licensing program, carrying a set number of activation rights. Each activation draws down the key's total allowance.
MAK keys come from enterprise volume licensing agreements and are validated on Microsoft's activation server. Their affordability comes from bulk production; it has nothing to do with piracy.
In individual use, a MAK key is used on a single computer on a one-time activation basis. Because activation rights live on the key itself, it matters that your seller allocates the key exclusively to you — prefer invoiced sellers who declare the type.
